What happened to ?tp=1 in Joomla 1.6?
15.01.11
I've seen several people ask the question now: what happened to ?tp=1 in Joomla 1.6?
For those who have no idea what ?tp=1 means, this is a method to show locations of module positions within a Joomla template.
There are still a ton of sites out there running Joomla 1.0x and though the new 1.5x platform's been out for some months, many web developers [like you? :) ] are a little daunted by the prospect of moving their old sites over.
Well, like anything, its best to start with some form of roadmap; make a list of what needs to move over and plan your approach by weighting the tasks you think will be most strenuous along a timeline you can deal with.
Migration is actually pretty simple if you consider that your Joomla site basically is just made up of:
- Category-structures/Articles/Menus/Modules
- A template/theme
- Installed 3rd party Extensions (and their data)

As a result of the recent Production Leadership Team (PLT) meeting at the end of July, Joomla's release cycle has been clarified. After 10 years of teaching at Marlboro College Graduate School, I've "retired" so I can spend more time on 4Web and making videos for lynda.com. When I departed, they gave me this plaque. Joomlashack is excited to announce the release of Scribe for Joomla. Scribe is an SEO service that analyzes your content and tells you how you can make it better for search engines and get ranked higher. When you install the free Scribe for Joomla extension, you can analyze your articles to improve their SEO copywriting - with the click of a button. The analysis shows you what search engines think your article is about, and then suggests and guides you to make it better. Its like having an SEO copywriting expert standing by your shoulder, helps you optimize your content faster and easier. Its not a tool to tweak SEF url's, its a powerful editorial assistant to help you write better copy for search engines!

Joomlashack's annual holiday charitable campaign is back with a new twist: We'll match your donations!
For the fourth year, Joomlashack is rallying our community to support a worthy charity during the holiday season.
This year we're supporting the important humanitarian efforts of Doctors without Borders (aka Médecins Sans Frontières, or MSF.)
For every dollar contributed by our community, Joomlashack will match up to a total of $1,000. Other partners may match even more!
What is Médecins Sans Frontières?
The Production Leadership Team (PLT) is the group of people that is responsible for keeping the machinery that produces the Joomla software maintained and in good working order.  The PLT aims to meet in person once or twice a year.  The last development related summit was held in Australia in January of 2009 and this meeting was pivotal for bringing in necessary changes to the organisational and communication structure of the Joomla production system, lowering the barriers to entry for contribution significantly.
The next PLT Summit will be held around the Joomla Day West in San Jose in October this year.  Prime focus will be given to establishing the policy and process we need to revise in order to make Joomla 1.7, and all future versions, happen in a more timely and efficient manner, and allow for innovation to be incorporated at a pace that keeps up with the dynamic flow of the part of the internet in which we reside. To help us plan for this summit, we'd like your suggestions for what you think might be important for us to talk about.  We only have two or three days together so we can't cover everything, but we'd like to know what's on your mind all the same whether you are a user, a developer, a designer or a site administrator.  If you have a suggestion, please post them using this form.
Finally, we must thanks the sponsors for this event which have offset the major costs that would otherwise have been bourn by PLT members personally.  Thanks go to eBay, Microsoft and Kontent Design for allowing us to make this event possible.
Many K-12 schools find Simplweb's fully managed service a useful way to maintain their websites. Some higher education schools are also following the trend. The latest addition to the Simplweb family is the Upper Valley Educators Institute, a principal and teacher certification school of education.

Last week I posted about Reputational Management in Twitter, interestingly enough, this concept of online reputational management seems to be cropping up more and more on my radar.
There are even web applications springing up that will aggregate online references to yourself and searching for "web reputation management" get's over 800,000 hits.
Only this morning I see an interesting example chirping its ways through the Twit-o-Sphere about some dubious reporting abo [...]
Any web page, including one generated by Joomla can have "meta tags" or "elements" in the header information. The one's that get the most focus are the Title tag, the Description tag and the Keyword tag. This is mainly because it's thought that these have the most influence on Search Engine Ranking (which is not entirely true). There are other tags/elements such as robots or language that provoke less discussion that the title, description or keyword, but are still important. Lets take each Tag in turn and see how they are used in Joomla. Increasingly, websites are offering a bit of HTML you can paste into your site to show some cool feature: Facebook or Twitter feeds, YouTube videos, badges from site or another. You try copying and pasting the HTML into a Joomla article or a custom HTML module, and you find that the code gets stripped, removing critical tags like script or iframe, so it doesn't work correctly. Then you try to go find a Joomla extension that will allow you to post the information. It's frustrating!Source

Last year at the Joint Leadership Summit (JLS) (in San Jose, California from July 29-31, 2011) we've discussed about our project’s leadership structure (see this blog post: Proposed Leadership structure changes & request for community feedback).
A proposal for a new Joomla project structure was made by Alan Langford, Javier Gomez, Jeremy Wilken, Peter Martin and Christine Graf and is available at Google Docs.
An Infographic of this proposed project structure was made by Themepartner.
