So you want to know how your Joomla site is on SEO?
09.05.09
It has been a while since my latest post, but I really have been busy working on new website building projects. So my time is already limited, because I do all this stuff on the Internet after my normal daytime job. Why? because I like to share knowledge, get in touch with new idea’s and try them [...]

Joomlashack University is officially 1 year old this month! It's our ANNIVERSITY! Hard to believe we've gone from a handful of sign-ups to almost 2100 subscriptions in just under a year's time--making us the #1 source for online Joomla training! When I created Joomlashack University in October 2009, I had one goal. I wanted to make the the hands-down best way to learn Joomla.
Last week Mark wrote the first Production Working Group Leadership status blog.  At last Saturday's meeting, for some strange reason I volunteered to write one this week.
Work continues on 1.6.  As Mark stated last week, the biggest task remaining for the release of 1.6 is ACL.  The other night Louis showed me some mockups of one of the UI widgets and they look quite sharp.  It is pretty exciting to see this much sought after feature finally starting to come together.  Hannes and Andrew have also been working hard to get all of the pieces together.  Once this gets to a workable stage we will be really close to 1.6 going beta!  Keep an eye on the branches in the SVN to get a look at what is happening.
The other area of focus is the Joomla! Labs Project. As most are aware, one of the struggles we've had as a project is figuring out how to open our doors to fresh developers. The Labs Project is one piece of the puzzle that will change the way we do development.  Stay tuned for more details.
Well, those are the highlights - we've come so far with 1.6 yet we still have some distance to travel as we head towards the beta process.  Can't wait!

Nested categories are one of the most discussed new features in Joomla 1.6. However, many people have categories confused with tags. Let's look at how nested categories function in Joomla 1.6 and compare that with tagging -- a feature promised for Joomla 1.7. Yesterday, Heidi and I met with a wonderful group of women running a startup. They have a Joomla website, but they have had a nightmare dealing with their Joomla developer. Time after time, they have requested something to be done on their site, their developer says no problem, and the developer fails to deliver. Furthermore, the developer would send them invoices, charging hours and hours of time for "research", which never materialized into a solution for their problems. The client was funding this developer's learning curve, to no benefit of their own website! Tomorrow, on July 19, Joomla 1.7 will be released. You're probably wondering how you can come up to speed quickly on another new version of Joomla, including what documentation and training videos are available.
It's 2011 and it's a great time to start a freelance web design business. What's even better is to do it providing services for open source CMSs, like, say, Joomla! To help a budding freelancer start 2011 firing on all cylinders, I have gathered a massive giveaway drawing packed with subscriptions, hosting, books and clubs worth thousands of dollars. Will you be the lucky one? Read on to find out how to enter the drawing.

When is Joomla 1.6 coming out? What has changed in Joomla 1.6? Should I use Joomla 1.5 or 1.6?
In the same way when 1.5 came out and people were wondering about their 1.0 websites, the same questions are being asked again of Joomla 1.6.
Let's look into our crystal ball and try and answer these three questions!
When is Joomla 1.6 coming out?Right now Joomla 1.6 is in alpha. That's the first of a series of stages that it will go through before its ready to use on a prod[...] Joomla 1.6 and 1.7 introduced some new features regarding search, which may be helpful to you when building websites.
I have recently been working with an Education School - The Upper Valley Educator Institute - to migrate their internal email systems to Google Apps Education Edition.
Their email was stored on a traditional server and everyone was using a different email client (no-one had backups!). Google Apps would provide some clear advantages in efficiency and management.
Joomla with its standard well thought out structure will give you a perfect platform to get your keyword clusters together and boost your website into the search engine ranking of your main keyword, just read here on how to set things right...

Joomla! Multimedia – A Book Review about Images, Video and More… | Joomla Mulitimedia
17.07.10
I received a review copy of Joomla! 1.5 Multimedia from Packt Publishers and was expecting to read a lot that I already know about Images and the image manager in Joomla!. But instead it was an eye-opener about the possibilities that Joomla! and some special extensions gives you to create a complete multimedia experience for your visitors. This [...]

What Happened to the Donation Page ... Revisited
17.06.10
You probably didn't notice, but recently we have republished the "Support Joomla!" page. We also have a new "Support Joomla!" module for anyone to use. This is exciting because for the past several years we have not been able to ask the Joomla! Community for financial support. What happened?
As I mentioned back in February, at the advice of our attorneys, and with a lot of reflection, the board of Open Source Matters (OSM) had been exploring the possibility of "correcting" its corporate charter. Those corrections have now been made, and this post will explain what that means. The specific changes could not be discussed previously because they were legal advice, but now we can do so. There are complicated legal and financial reasons for making these changes which I am going to try to explain in this post. It will be a little heavy going, so before I start let me stress the two main points:
- OSM will always remain a not for profit organization.
- This change will allow OSM to ask for money for support of the Joomla! Project.

Joomla Tools and Resources from Mashable

I just read a great page that gives you lots of website links with high quality information about Joomla. Altough the Title of 30+ Joomla Tools and Resources doesn’t really give you tools like modules or components, a lot of the sites featured in this post do have some fine extensions for your Joomla website. I know I [...]

SourceOpen sourcing leadership lessons learned at Open Source Days 2011
08.03.11
I look back at the Joomla project's more than five years of history as something that could be the makings of either a great book or at minimum a documentary on success and challenges in open source leadership.  We've been through it all, the highs and lows, and we continue to keep moving forward.
So when I sat down last week to make some changes to my presentation for Open Source Days 2011 at the Copenhagen Business School, it quickly moved from a little refactoring to a full rewrite.  A ten hour rewrite.
The topic for the session was something I'd always wanted to write about for the open source community:  leadership lessons learned from a large volunteer-based open source project.  While I've only been president of Open Source Matters (OSM) for less than a year, I've spent nearly four years on the Board of OSM, and have my share of stories to tell.
My goal for this March 5, 2011, session was to give fellow open source project leaders a grab bag of success stories, pitfalls to avoid, and an uplifting approach to embracing change.
