Joomla 1.5 RC2 and RC3 The SEO and Other Differences | Joomla 1.5 SEO
The Joomla! Production Leadership Team is pleased to welcome two new members, Christophe Demko and Jean-Marie Simonet.
They have both demonstrated remarkable and continued contributions for joomla 1.5 and the upcoming joomla 1.6, and their combined insight and devotion for i18n/l10n and translation matters, will be of great importance for further improvements of this part of the joomla software.
We see them as the best people for this particular job currently, and therefore are very pleased that they both accepted the invitation to join the team.
There are some pretty exciting changes coming with regard to how we work on Joomla!. In the near future we are going to be allowing developers to register accounts via our Joomla! Developer Network site and be given access to commit code to our subversion repositories with those accounts. We will be keeping the trunk and release sections of our repository secured for trusted maintainers, but anyone will be able to create and work in branches so that more people can be working collaboratively on making Joomla! better.
While these changes are a fantastic step towards facilitating access to the core software, they also potentially expose the project to some problems. Historically, gaining commit access to the core repository has come with earning the trust and favor of the existing committers. This has kept the group relatively small, and given us all good assurances that the people who are committing code understand the ramifications, both legal and social, of having that privilege. By opening up to self-registration we are losing some of that assurance, so we felt it was important to formalize the terms under which we accept contributions to our project repositories.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time working with OSM, the Production Leadership Team, and obviously OSM’s attorneys to come up with what we believe to be a great solution to these challenges: the Joomla! Contributor Agreement (JCA). The JCA is based on the Sun Contributor Agreement, version 1.5, by Sun Microsystems, but obviously reworked for our purposes. My hope is that it will make expectations for both the contributor and the Joomla! project more clear as we move into the future. What I am presenting here today are three draft documents, and I am asking for your feedback.
Joomlashack's annual holiday charitable campaign is back with a new twist: We'll match your donations!
For the fourth year, Joomlashack is rallying our community to support a worthy charity during the holiday season.
This year we're supporting the important humanitarian efforts of Doctors without Borders (aka Médecins Sans Frontières, or MSF.)
For every dollar contributed by our community, Joomlashack will match up to a total of $1,000. Other partners may match even more!
What is Médecins Sans Frontières?

Be sure to read the latest proposal for Joomla's leadership structure and give them comments and feedback for what's being planned. (You may need to join the Leadership Group at the Joomla People site in order to provide that feedback.) This is important, because Joomla's leadership and direction impacts your business, particularly if you are making money building Joomla websites for clients.
The Joomla project recently reached its 10 millionth download of its popular CMS, a great milestone for the project, and in only 4 years.
Last year I estimated that over 30 million sites use Joomla, though obviously that number must be bigger now.
Interestingly enough, last month I also did some work breaking down the trends of 1.0 to 1.5 downloads of Joomla, you can see the results in this graph.
One of the more exciting new releases for Joomla 1.5 recently has been K2 from Joomlaworks.
K2 is a content construction component, which lets you create custom content types (items) for your Joomla! website. With K2, build all sorts of different types of page: news, blogs, product catalogs, work portfolio, knowledge base, download/document manager, direcRead More...

Registered Joomla! User Groups are a great way for the Joomla user community to network and meet new friends in their city, region or country.  You can share your knowledge, help with the project or learn about using Joomla.

If not, you might want to consider to start one.
These are a some of requirements to being registered. (For more information please read our Joomla! User Group FAQ)
- Follow the naming structure: ex. Joomla! User Group Mars
- Comply to Joomla's policies on trademarks, logo, domain names etc...
- Choose a locality : ex. city, area, region or county
- Have a specific web page for your JUG information (may be a google group)

Everyone needs to do SEO, its a continual point I make when speaking at Joomla events. Even if you are a local school, parents will first use Google to find information, they won't come directly to your site.
Our second Video Raw Review is on a useful SEO extensions called iJoomla SEO. Its a very useful tool to help you organize and manage you SEO efforts.
I installed iJoomla SEO and put it through it's paces without ever having used it before. Raw look, no reading documentation, just install it and play!

SourceNew Community Leadership Team Members
17.08.11
A while back we wrote a blog post asking the community to nominate people that they felt would be good candidates to join the Community Leadership Team.
From those nominations, we are pleased to announce that we had selected six people. Four people accepted our invitation, while two chose to instead focus on their current volunteer roles in the community. We thank all of the people that we invited for their kind and thoughtful responses, as well as the Joomla Community for the many excellent suggestions.
So, to not keep you in suspense any longer, please join us in welcoming the following new CLT members:
Isidro Baquero - Related with Joomla since Mambo days, he owns a blog about Joomla in Spanish (www.gnumla.org). He started collaborating actively with the Joomla project during early 2010, when joined the moderator team as local moderator for the Spanish forum. After that, he continued to increase his involvement, joining JPeople community managers team and the JCM as Spanish editor during 2010, and becoming JPeople Communications Manager during 2011. Also, during 2011 summer he joined Joomla Tweet team and the Spanish Translation Team.
Milena Mitova - With more than 8 years of online marketing experience and a broad set of technical and project management skills, Milena uses her expertise in SEM (search engine marketing), analytics, and landing page optimization to create high-impact Joomla websites.
She works as an online marketing manager for FalconStor Software, Inc. and manages her own web design company - Complete Website Care. She also volunteers as an author and team member of Joomla! Community Magazine.
Olaf Offick - Olaf is an Internet Engineer (M.Sc.) working in Galway, Ireland. He is the founder of Learn Skills, a company providing high quality Learning Management Systems (LMS / LCMS / VLE) and Educational Materials to businesses, schools and government organisations. In the Joomla! community, Olaf currently works on the Joomla Forum team as a Global Moderator and forum Adminstrator.
Sander Potjer - The involvement with the Joomla community started back in 2008, as co-founder of the local Dutch community www.joomlacommunity.eu. In a short period they established a solid community with an active team of volunteers. The volunteers contribute by providing news, translations, documentation, forum support and by organization the Joomla User Groups (14 in a small country!) and the yearly Dutch JoomlaDays.
As you can see, these new members not only add to the skills and experience of the CLT but also bring representation from our International community, something that we feel is very important for our commitment to Internationalization which we discussed in depth at our recent summit.
Isidro, Milena, Olaf and Sander - Welcome! We are so very excited to have you on board of our team and we look forward to working with you. Thank you for taking on this added responsibility on top of all that you do already for our community.
If you would like to say your own welcome or note of congratulations, or have any other comments or questions, we welcome those in this thread on the Joomla! People site.

Community Leadership Team Summit 2010
15.09.10
The Community Leadership Team (CLT) will be hosting a summit on 1 October 2010 through 4 October 2010 in San Jose, California. This will overlap the Joomla! Day West 2010. Members of the CLT will be available for questions and feedback during the Joomla! Day event and are also on the presenter's list.
The CLT is tasked with the operation of the Joomla.org sites including the Extensions Directory, Forums, Resources Directory, Community Magazine, Community Portal, J!People and the teams of volunteers that facilitate these sites (known as the Community Working Groups). One of the primary responsibilities of the CLT is to provide a safe and positive environment for the community. During this summit, the CLT will meet to discuss ways to help the community and the teams and additionally plan and prepare for the future. We want community input for topics that should be discussed. To help facilitate this we have setup a simple form (below) for you to submit your anonymous suggestions for topics to cover.
Addtionally, we are going one step further - a Live streamed "Open for Questions" session will be held on 4 October 2010 from 9am - 10am (GMT-7). This will be available for free to all community members by simply going to the JoomlaCommunity Livestream channel: http://www.livestream.com/joomlacommunity
We look forward to this exciting event and the feedback and participation of everyone!
