Migrating from Joomla 1.6 to 1.7 is very simple. However, depending on where you're starting in your Joomla 1.6 site, this may take a few steps to complete.

You probably didn't notice, but recently we have republished the "Support Joomla!" page. We also have a new "Support Joomla!" module for anyone to use. This is exciting because for the past several years we have not been able to ask the Joomla! Community for financial support. What happened?
As I mentioned back in February, at the advice of our attorneys, and with a lot of reflection, the board of Open Source Matters (OSM) had been exploring the possibility of "correcting" its corporate charter. Those corrections have now been made, and this post will explain what that means. The specific changes could not be discussed previously because they were legal advice, but now we can do so. There are complicated legal and financial reasons for making these changes which I am going to try to explain in this post. It will be a little heavy going, so before I start let me stress the two main points:
- OSM will always remain a not for profit organization.
- This change will allow OSM to ask for money for support of the Joomla! Project.

Joomla 1.6 drives forward with developer conference
22.11.09
The steady march to Joomla 1.6 picked up further steam recently with the release of the project's second alpha release.
Joomla 1.6 Alpha 2 became available last week, and shows the development team is making great strides toward a next generation Joomla.
Front and center in this new release is the long-awaited Access Control Level feature, or ACL. A first release of the "nested categories" and a new backend template made it in the second alpha as well.
With Joomla 1.6 getting closer to a beta release (anticipated sometime in the next few months), the Joomla leadership team is hosting the first-ever Joomla Developer Conference in early December.

17.11.11
Joomla 1.7.3 and Joomla 1.5.25 were released today, as a result of a zero-day security issue. Because of the security issue, it's recommended that you update your sites immediately. Joomla 1.7.3 fixed 77 CMS bugs as well as the two security issues. One of the big new features in Joomla 1.7.3 has to do with multi-language improvements, which are summarized in this blog post.
